MAIDUGURI — Governor Babagana Zulum has condemned the multiple explosions that struck Maiduguri on Monday evening, describing them as a “cruel and cowardly attack.”
Currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj, Zulum expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that innocent residents were targeted during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor urged residents to remain vigilant and called on security agencies to intensify surveillance, particularly around mosques and other public areas.
“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured,” Zulum said, describing the attacks as “utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane.”
He suggested the renewed violence may be linked to ongoing military operations targeting insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts across the region.
Despite the attacks, Zulum reassured residents that security forces are in control and taking measures to prevent further incidents. He urged the public to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, cooperate with security operatives, and report any suspicious movements within their communities.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies to protect lives and property across Borno State.
