MAIDUGURI — Senator Ali Ndume has condemned the deadly bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, describing the attacks as “barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on innocent citizens.”
The explosions reportedly occurred around the Monday Market area, near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and the Post Office Flyover, claiming at least 23 lives and leaving more than 100 injured. Emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, were deployed promptly to assist victims.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ndume, currently performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending condolences to Governor Babagana Zulum, families of the victims, and those receiving treatment at UMTH.
“I cannot begin to imagine the pain and burden on our Governor at this moment. This is a deeply heartbreaking situation for him and for all of us. May Allah grant us comfort, strength, and healing,” Ndume said.
The senator commended the swift response of security agencies and urged intensified measures to prevent further attacks, particularly as Eid celebrations approach. “I urge all residents, not only in Maiduguri but across Borno State, particularly in Borno South, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We must not let our guard down at this critical time,” he added.
The Nigerian Army warned that suspected Boko Haram elements may deploy multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri, targeting crowded public locations in an attempt to inflict mass casualties and spread panic.
Ndume concluded by praying for the repose of the deceased, a speedy recovery for the injured, and lasting peace for Borno State and Nigeria.
