Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has praised Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as the visible transformation taking place across all parts of the state through strategic infrastructure development.
Izeze gave the commendation on Friday during the inauguration of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road and the access road to the Second Niger Bridge in Oko Kingdom, Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the commissioner said the newly completed road project was a major intervention that would protect the community from flooding while improving connectivity and economic activities in the area.
He explained that the road was deliberately constructed above the level of the devastating 2012 flood that submerged several buildings in the community.
According to him, the elevation of the road would ensure that future floods do not affect the route.
“If you witnessed the 2012 flood, many buildings in Oko were submerged. But the road you see today has been raised above the level of that flood,” he said.
“From all available statistical parameters, no flood will overrun this road by the grace of God. That is what we mean when we say we are building an ark for the people.”
Izeze noted that the massive turnout of residents during the commissioning ceremony reflected the appreciation of the people for the development projects delivered by the Oborevwori administration.
He said many members of the community had expressed strong support for the governor, acknowledging the positive impact of his infrastructure drive on their lives.
“When we were coming in for this inauguration, we saw a very large crowd coming from the Oko market area. The people were fully mobilised and excited because they appreciate what the governor has done for them,” he added.
The commissioner also used the opportunity to commend staff of the Delta State Ministry of Works, particularly the Department of Highways and Urban Roads, for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
He said the quality of the road project was a testament to the diligence of the ministry’s engineers and technical team as well as the contractor that executed the work.
Izeze reiterated that the Oborevwori administration remained committed to delivering durable infrastructure projects that would improve transportation, boost agricultural productivity and enhance the overall quality of life of the people across Delta State.
