A member of the House of Representatives representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Ginger Onwusibe, has stated that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will not oppose the second-term re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Onwusibe made this known on Sunday during the flag-off ceremony of the “Project Switch On Bende” initiative held at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. The project was facilitated by the Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja, Frank Chinasa.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker described his position as a personal opinion but expressed confidence that Governor Otti would not stand against Tinubu’s re-election ambition. According to him, the Abia governor possesses the political capacity to mobilise support for the President.
Onwusibe further noted that both President Tinubu and Governor Otti, based on their performance in office, deserve a second term. Reflecting on his political experience since 1999, the lawmaker highlighted his roles under previous administrations, including those of former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
He maintained that, in his assessment, Governor Otti has outperformed his predecessors and has earned the right to seek re-election.
The Labour Party chieftain also commended Chinasa for facilitating the solar lighting initiative, adding that he would deliver more developmental projects if given a higher mandate.
In his remarks, Chinasa said the “Project Switch On Bende” initiative was aimed at restoring public confidence in governance while improving security and economic activities in the area. He disclosed that the project had already delivered 486 solar-powered street lights across Uzuakoli and Umuimenyi Ward within a short period.
According to him, the installation of the solar lights would help create safer communities, enable traders to extend business hours, and foster a renewed sense of pride among residents. He emphasised that the broader goal is to ensure that every ward and community in Bende Federal Constituency benefits from access to lighting infrastructure.
Chinasa added that the initiative aligns with Governor Otti’s development agenda and was supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission under its “Operation Light Up the Niger Delta” programme.
He also urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facilities to ensure their protection and sustainability.
In separate remarks, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and the chairman of the occasion, Johnson Chukwu, commended Chinasa for attracting the project.
Chukwu, who described himself as a supporter of good governance rather than partisan politics, noted that impactful leadership is measured by the number of lives touched. He added that Chinasa’s ability to leverage personal networks to deliver development projects demonstrates his potential to achieve more with greater political responsibility.
The event drew community leaders, stakeholders, and residents, marking a significant step toward improving infrastructure and security in Bende Local Government Area.
