The lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal made the announcement on his social media account on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, confirming that he had also informed his ward chairman of his resignation from the PDP “in writing.”
In his post on X, the former Sokoto State governor stated:
“Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing.”
Reflecting on his political journey, Tambuwal described the PDP as a significant part of his career, expressing gratitude for the platform it provided to serve the nation.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State during my second term in office,” he said.
However, he explained that his departure was prompted by the persistent leadership crises and divisions within the PDP, which, according to him, have weakened party unity and disrupted its once-clear direction.
“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership in the party. These developments have unfortunately weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and have necessitated this decision. Consequently, I have today officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with my associates and supporters.”
Tambuwal added that his move to the ADC was guided by his belief in the need for a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a commitment to national development.
“I remain fully committed to the service of our country and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity,” he concluded.
