The United Arab Emirates has called for comprehensive, long-term solutions to ensure sustainable security in the Gulf region, emphasizing that efforts must extend beyond a temporary ceasefire amid ongoing tensions.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X on Sunday, senior presidential adviser Anwar Gargash stressed the need for a broader strategic approach to regional stability.
“As we face the brutal Iranian aggression and discover our firm strength in steadfastness and resilience, our thinking does not stop at a ceasefire,” Gargash stated.
He noted that the focus should shift toward developing lasting frameworks that address the root causes of instability in the region, including threats linked to advanced weaponry and control of critical maritime routes.
“Rather, it moves toward solutions that guarantee sustainable security in the Arabian Gulf, curb nuclear threats, missiles, drones, and the bullying of maritime straits,” he added.
Gargash further argued that allowing aggression to persist unchecked would create a dangerous and permanent state of insecurity in the region.
“It is unreasonable for aggression to turn into a permanent state of threat,” he said.
The remarks come amid continued escalation following a joint military offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. The conflict has intensified tensions across the Middle East, raising global concerns over stability and security.
Reports indicate that the ongoing hostilities have resulted in more than 1,340 casualties, underscoring the severity of the crisis and its humanitarian implications.
In response to the offensive, Iran has carried out retaliatory drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and other countries in the region. These include strikes affecting Jordan and Iraq, as well as Gulf states hosting US military installations.
The retaliatory actions have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and significant disruptions to global markets and aviation, highlighting the far-reaching consequences of the conflict.
Analysts say the UAE’s position reflects growing concern among Gulf nations about the long-term implications of continued instability, particularly in relation to energy security and maritime trade routes.
The Arabian Gulf remains a critical hub for global oil supply, and any sustained conflict in the region poses risks not only to regional actors but also to the broader international economy.
With tensions still high, the UAE’s call underscores the urgency of pursuing diplomatic and strategic solutions that go beyond short-term ceasefires, aiming instead at durable peace and stability across the region.
