The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) enjoys overwhelming support across Kaduna State, describing the party as the dominant political force in the region.
Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, made the claim during a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, April 1. He was accompanied by former Kaduna lawmaker Shehu Sani and other political delegates from the state.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Abbas expressed confidence that APC is poised to achieve a landslide victory in Kaduna during the 2027 presidential election. He stated, “As you can see, this is Kaduna in summary: comrade Shehu Sani represents the central zone of Kaduna, which we call zone two, and distinguished senator Sunday Marshall is from zone three, which is the southern zone of Kaduna, and I represent the northern zone. We are here to pay a courtesy visit to Mr President, our father, to brief him about the progress of APC in Kaduna, and to tell him that APC has been accepted 100% in all the nooks and crannies of Kaduna, and to assure him that 2027 is guaranteed — a landslide from zone one to three.”
The Speaker emphasized that the APC’s acceptance extends beyond just the northern and central zones, asserting that the ruling party now enjoys widespread support across all three zones of the state.
Abbas also highlighted efforts by party leadership to engage leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the southern zone (zone three) to join the APC. “Because of the governor’s ingenuity, he has been able to reach out to zone three, which used to be predominantly the Peoples Democratic Party, to join us in the APC. Today, APC is the dominant party in all three zones,” he said.
The statement reflects the ruling party’s ongoing political strategy in Kaduna State, aimed at consolidating influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. Abbas’ remarks also signal efforts to strengthen party unity while drawing key opposition figures into the APC fold.
By presenting the party as having “100% acceptance” in Kaduna, Abbas underscored APC’s confidence in its electoral prospects, framing the party’s dominance as both geographic and political. He further suggested that this level of support positions APC to secure a decisive victory in the upcoming presidential poll.
Political observers note that Kaduna, a key northern state, has historically been a battleground for the APC and PDP. Abbas’ comments highlight ongoing attempts to expand the APC’s base, particularly in areas traditionally aligned with the opposition.
The visit to President Tinubu was described as a courtesy and briefing mission, aimed at updating the presidency on party progress and local political dynamics within Kaduna State. According to Abbas, such interactions are critical for maintaining coordination between state-level party officials and the national leadership.
Abbas’ remarks also pointed to the strategic significance of the governor’s influence in facilitating political realignments, particularly in zones historically dominated by opposition parties. This approach, he indicated, has been instrumental in securing APC’s present dominance across all three zones of Kaduna State.
The Speaker concluded by assuring supporters that the APC’s stronghold in Kaduna positions the party for a decisive showing in the 2027 elections, reinforcing confidence among party members and allies across the state.
In summary, Abbas’ declaration positions the APC as the leading political party in Kaduna, emphasizing unity across zones, outreach to former opposition figures, and preparations for a “landslide” victory in the next general elections.
