David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has declared that divine intervention is guiding the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration, stating that God is actively involved in the president’s governance and political direction.
Umahi made the remark while speaking at the opening of the Eke Obinagu–Emene flyover, where he disclosed that he received what he described as a divine revelation concerning the Nigerian president. According to him, the Southeast region has experienced significant political inclusion since Tinubu assumed office in 2023, adding that the long-standing concerns about marginalisation are no longer justified.
The minister emphasised that the current administration has demonstrated commitment to inclusiveness, particularly toward the Southeast geopolitical zone. He noted that several individuals from the region have been appointed to strategic positions within the federal government, a development he described as unprecedented.
According to Umahi, the increased representation of the Southeast in the federal government signals a new political era for the region. He said the development should encourage leaders and citizens of the Southeast to align more closely with the administration.
“God has spoken to me that His mighty hands are upon President Bola Tinubu. Our people must be strategic. The marginalisation we’re talking about is over. For the first time, we’re in the helm of affairs,” Umahi stated.
The minister also addressed the growing calls for a president of Southeast extraction, acknowledging that many people in the region desire such political advancement. However, he advised that achieving that ambition would require cooperation with the current administration.
According to him, building strong political relationships and supporting the present government would help create the pathway for a Southeast presidency in the future. He stressed that political strategy and unity among leaders in the region would be critical to achieving that goal.
Umahi further revealed that governors from the Southeast region are united in their support for President Tinubu. He said the governors recognise the benefits of working closely with the federal government and are committed to strengthening cooperation for regional development.
He urged political leaders from the Southeast to openly declare their support for the president, insisting that silence or neutrality could weaken the region’s political influence. The minister emphasised that leaders must take bold steps in persuading their constituents about the importance of supporting the administration.
“I want to plead with Southeast leaders to be bold in convincing our people on the need to vote for Mr President. If you’re a leader in the Southeast and you’re not vocal in the declaration, then you’re not for us,” Umahi added.
The minister also highlighted infrastructure development as one of the major gains the Southeast has witnessed under the current administration. He noted that the commissioning of the Eke Obinagu–Emene flyover represents part of the federal government’s commitment to improving transportation and boosting economic activities in the region.
Observers say Umahi’s comments reflect ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, as political leaders across different regions position themselves for greater influence. His remarks also underscore the growing conversation about political inclusion, regional representation, and strategic alliances within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
The Southeast has historically raised concerns about marginalisation in federal appointments and infrastructure development. However, Umahi’s assertion suggests that the current administration is addressing those concerns through increased representation and project execution.
Political analysts note that the minister’s call for unity among Southeast leaders may play a significant role in shaping future political dynamics in the region. They argue that coordinated support for the administration could influence federal decision-making and development priorities.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Umahi’s statement has sparked discussions across political circles regarding the future of Southeast representation and the broader implications for national politics.
For now, the minister remains confident that cooperation between Southeast leaders and the Tinubu administration will bring further development to the region and strengthen its political standing within Nigeria’s governance structure.
