Former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has alleged that some individuals are plotting to sabotage the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jang made the allegation on Thursday, April 2, while addressing the president during his visit to Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The president was in the state to commiserate with families of victims affected by recent bandit attacks and killings in Angwan Rukuba within Jos North Local Government Area.
During his remarks, Jang spoke directly to President Tinubu, expressing concern over what he described as attempts by certain individuals to undermine the president’s chances in the 2027 elections. He, however, assured the president that such efforts would ultimately fail.
“Your Excellency, I think some people want to sabotage these coming elections, and by the grace of God we will not allow them,” Jang said while addressing the president.
The former governor further praised President Tinubu’s performance since assuming office, describing his administration as one that is making meaningful progress in addressing national challenges. According to him, the president is currently “doing a fantastic job” and remains on course for re-election.
Jang also expressed confidence that the president would secure a second term to continue his policies and development agenda. He noted that although some individuals may be attempting to disrupt the political process toward the end of the president’s first tenure, such attempts would not succeed.
“Some people think they want to spoil it at this last tail end of the first tenure. By the grace of God, you’ll come back to accomplish the work,” Jang added.
President Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State followed recent security challenges in parts of the state, particularly the attacks in Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. The president visited the state to sympathize with affected families and communities, as well as reassure residents of the federal government’s commitment to improving security.
During the visit, political leaders, community stakeholders, and government officials gathered to receive the president and present their concerns regarding security and development in the state.
Jang also used the opportunity to request a private meeting with the president to discuss issues of national importance. He expressed his intention to visit Abuja for a detailed conversation with President Tinubu.
“I look forward, Your Excellency, to coming to Abuja so that we really have a heart-to-heart talk. God bless you, and I wish you a safe journey and a very happy Easter,” he said.
The former governor’s remarks come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders across the country already positioning and expressing support for potential candidates.
Political observers note that Jang’s endorsement of President Tinubu and his warning about alleged sabotage attempts reflect increasing political alignments and early mobilization efforts ahead of the next election cycle.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, has continued to receive both support and criticism over his administration’s economic and security policies. However, supporters such as Jang maintain that the president’s reforms and leadership approach will yield long-term benefits for the country.
The visit also highlighted ongoing concerns about insecurity in Plateau State and other parts of the country, with stakeholders calling for sustained federal intervention to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
The president’s engagement with victims’ families and local leaders during the visit was seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen national unity and demonstrate government responsiveness to security challenges.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, political endorsements and statements such as Jang’s are expected to intensify, signaling the beginning of early political maneuvering across the country.
Meanwhile, residents of Plateau State expressed appreciation for the president’s visit, noting that his presence brought attention to the plight of affected communities and renewed hope for improved security and development in the region.
Jang concluded his remarks by offering prayers for the president and wishing him a safe journey, while also extending goodwill ahead of the upcoming Easter celebration.
