The Oyo Alaafin Forum has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as bold and far-reaching economic reforms, while urging the Federal Government to consider Oyo Town and its surrounding communities in the selection of the next ministerial nominee from Oyo State.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Segun Owolabi, the group commended the administration’s policy direction, noting that recent economic measures are beginning to yield positive outcomes.
According to the forum, key reforms such as fiscal restructuring, exchange rate unification, and fuel subsidy rationalisation are gradually stabilising the Nigerian economy. It added that these policies have contributed to improved investor confidence and renewed optimism about the country’s economic prospects.
The group stated that while the reforms may have presented short-term challenges, they are necessary steps toward achieving long-term economic growth and sustainability. It expressed confidence that continued implementation would further strengthen Nigeria’s financial system and enhance productivity across sectors.
Beyond economic policy, the forum also applauded the President’s directive requiring political office holders with declared ambitions to resign from their positions. It described the move as a demonstration of commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and accountability in governance.
According to the statement, such decisions help to promote fairness in the political process and ensure that public office is not used as an advantage in pursuing personal political interests.
The forum further acknowledged the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who represented Oyo State in the Federal Executive Council. It noted that his exit creates an opportunity for broader representation within the state.
In this regard, the group called on the Federal Government to appoint a replacement from Oyo Town or its environs, arguing that the area deserves inclusion in federal appointments.
It stressed that equitable distribution of political positions remains essential for fostering unity, inclusiveness, and balanced development across the state.
The forum expressed optimism that the President would consider its appeal, stating that such a decision would further strengthen the administration’s commitment to fairness and national cohesion.
Political observers note that calls for equitable representation often intensify following changes in key government positions, particularly in diverse states where multiple interests seek inclusion.
As the Federal Government prepares to fill the vacant ministerial slot, attention is expected to focus on how regional and political considerations will shape the eventual nomination.
