Miss Iniabasi Godswill Akpabio, daughter of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has been appointed as the Akwa Ibom State Director of the City Boy Movement.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the national leadership of the group in a short statement shared via its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the statement, the appointment forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the movement’s grassroots presence and expanding its youth-focused initiatives, particularly in the South-South region.
Iniabasi Akpabio is expected to oversee the coordination of the movement’s activities across Akwa Ibom State. Her role will involve mobilizing young supporters, driving engagement at the community level, and building a stronger network for the group within the state.
The City Boy Movement noted that her emergence comes at a critical time when political organizations are intensifying efforts to consolidate their structures and expand influence ahead of future electoral activities.
In its statement, the group expressed confidence in her leadership abilities, describing her appointment as a step toward injecting renewed energy into its operations in the state. The leadership also indicated that her role would be pivotal in advancing the movement’s objectives among youths and grassroots communities.
“Introducing the Akwa Ibom State Director of the City Boy Movement, Iniabasi Godswill Akpabio. With her at the helm in Akwa Ibom, the movement is set for unprecedented impact,” the statement read.
Political observers say the appointment reflects a growing trend among youth-driven political groups seeking to expand their reach by appointing influential and recognizable figures at the state level. They note that such moves are often aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilization and enhancing visibility.
While the appointment has generated attention due to her family background, analysts emphasize that her performance in the role will ultimately determine the level of impact she can make within Akwa Ibom State.
As political activities gradually intensify across the country, the role of youth movements like the City Boy Movement is expected to become increasingly significant in shaping political engagement and participation at the grassroots level.
