The Urhobo Consultative Forum (UCF) has extended its congratulations to Senator Ede Dafinone following his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs.
In a statement released by the group, the forum described the appointment as well-deserved and reflective of Dafinone’s track record of leadership, integrity, and commitment to national service.
The UCF noted that the appointment was conferred by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and described the development as a significant recognition of the lawmaker’s contributions within the National Assembly.
According to the forum, the elevation of Dafinone is not only a personal milestone but also a moment of pride for the Urhobo people and constituents of Delta Central Senatorial District. It said the appointment reinforces confidence in his ability to represent the interests of his people while contributing to national development.
The group emphasised that the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs plays a crucial role in promoting fairness, equity, and balanced representation across Nigeria’s diverse regions. It expressed optimism that Dafinone’s leadership would strengthen these principles and ensure effective implementation of policies tied to federal character.
“We view this elevation as not only a personal honour but also a proud moment for the Urhobo Nation and Delta Central Senatorial District,” the statement read.
The forum added that it expects the committee, under Dafinone’s leadership, to enhance intergovernmental collaboration and promote inclusiveness in governance. It stressed the importance of transparency and measurable impact in implementing the federal character principle, which is designed to ensure equitable distribution of opportunities and resources across the federation.
UCF further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the senator as he undertakes his new responsibilities. The group said it remains dedicated to the progress, unity, and development of the Urhobo people and would continue to collaborate with leaders working toward those goals.
“We are particularly confident that under your leadership, the committee will strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and ensure that the Federal Character principle is implemented with transparency, inclusiveness, and measurable impact across the federation,” the forum stated.
The organisation also offered prayers for wisdom, strength, and success for the senator as he assumes the new role, noting that the responsibilities attached to the position are critical to national cohesion.
The appointment of Dafinone to head the committee comes amid ongoing efforts within the National Assembly to reinforce institutional oversight and ensure equitable governance practices. Analysts say leadership of such committees is vital in addressing longstanding concerns about representation and distribution of federal appointments and resources.
Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, has been actively involved in legislative activities since his election, with a focus on governance, economic issues, and constituency development.
His new role is expected to place him at the centre of discussions on federal appointments, intergovernmental relations, and policy coordination between different levels of government.
Observers note that the endorsement by the Urhobo Consultative Forum reflects growing support within his constituency and highlights the significance of the appointment to the region.
As he takes on the responsibility, expectations remain high that his leadership will contribute to strengthening national unity and ensuring that governance structures reflect the diversity and aspirations of Nigeria’s population.
The UCF concluded its message by reiterating its confidence in Dafinone’s ability to deliver on the mandate of the committee and uphold the principles of fairness and justice in national affairs.
