The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the approval of members of the State House of Assembly Screening Committee and the State House of Assembly Screening Appeal Committee by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party ahead of the forthcoming party primaries in the state.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Delta APC Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., and made available to journalists on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
According to the statement, the approval of the committees by the National Working Committee forms part of the party’s preparations to ensure a transparent, credible, and seamless screening process for all aspirants seeking to contest for seats in the Delta State House of Assembly under the platform of the APC.
The party disclosed that the appointed members of the Assembly Screening Committee for Delta State include Dr. Uche Uzochukwu, who will serve as Chairman; Barr. Amauchechukwu Uzoaro, Member; Comrade Peter Chime, Member; Hon. Mrs. Peace Patrick Nnaji, Member; and Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor, who will serve as Secretary of the committee.
Similarly, the National Working Committee also approved the appointment of members of the State House of Assembly Screening Appeal Committee for Delta State.
The committee is chaired by Senator Ben-Collins Ndu, while Hon. Anthony Nwobodo will serve as Member and Barr. Peter Ugwu as Secretary.
The party explained that the committees were constituted to oversee the screening and appeal processes for aspirants participating in the State House of Assembly primary election process in Delta State.
Delta APC further informed all aspirants that the screening exercise would take place at the Delta APC State Secretariat located along WAEC Road in Asaba, opposite the WAEC Office.
According to the statement, all aspirants are expected to present themselves for the screening exercise on Sunday, May 10, 2026, by 1:00 p.m. prompt at the designated venue.
The party urged aspirants to comply fully with the guidelines and cooperate with members of the screening and appeal committees throughout the exercise.
Meanwhile, the Delta APC used the opportunity to dismiss reports circulating on social media alleging that some aspirants were deliberately being denied access to the screening process in order to prevent them from participating in the party’s primaries.
The party described the reports as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary tension among members and aspirants.
According to the statement, no aspirant is being unfairly excluded or denied the opportunity to participate in the democratic processes of the party.
The APC explained that the delay in commencing the screening exercise was not intentional but resulted from the late release of the names of screening committee members by the National Working Committee.
The statement noted that the National Working Committee only released the names of members of the Screening Committee and Screening Appeal Committee nationwide on May 9, 2026, thereby affecting the initial schedule earlier anticipated by aspirants and stakeholders.
The party therefore appealed to all aspirants and supporters to disregard the rumours and false narratives being spread online regarding the screening process.
It also advised members to remain calm and focused while cooperating with party officials to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.
Delta APC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible screening process in accordance with the constitution and operational guidelines of the party.
The party stressed that fairness, equity, and due process would continue to guide its activities as preparations intensify for the primary elections and the larger electoral contests ahead.
Political observers say the screening exercise is expected to play a critical role in determining the quality and eligibility of aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the Delta State House of Assembly elections.
The process is also seen as a major step in the APC’s efforts to strengthen internal democracy and ensure that only qualified aspirants emerge to represent the party during the elections.
Stakeholders within the party have expressed optimism that the screening process would be conducted peacefully and transparently, particularly following the public clarification issued by the party leadership regarding the delay and alleged exclusion of some aspirants.
Some party members who spoke after the announcement commended the National Working Committee for constituting the committees and expressed confidence in the ability of the selected members to discharge their responsibilities fairly and professionally.
Others also welcomed the clarification provided by the party over the social media allegations, noting that such misinformation had caused anxiety among some aspirants and their supporters.
The APC in Delta State has in recent months intensified preparations ahead of future elections, with party leaders repeatedly emphasizing the need for unity, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles during the nomination and primary election processes.
The party has also continued to promote its “Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E. Agenda” message as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the APC-led Federal Government and political stakeholders in Delta State.
Analysts believe the screening and appeal processes would serve as an important test of the party’s internal cohesion and readiness ahead of the next phase of the electoral process.
As the screening exercise begins, attention is expected to focus on the conduct of the committees, the level of transparency in the exercise, and the eventual emergence of candidates who will represent the APC in the State House of Assembly elections.
The leadership of the party, however, has assured aspirants and members that the process would be fair, open, and consistent with the constitution of the APC and established democratic procedures.
The statement announcing the committees and the screening schedule was signed by the Delta State APC Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., on behalf of the party leadership on May 9, 2026.
