UVWIE — The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode, JP, has congratulated Dr. (Mrs.) Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata on her appointment as the first internal female Provost of the Delta State College of Education, Warri.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Onoriode described the appointment as historic and well-deserved, noting that it reflects Dr. Ighrakpata’s academic excellence and years of service to the institution.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the appointment on Friday, making Dr. Ighrakpata the first woman to head the college in its internal capacity.
The Uvwie chairman highlighted the symbolic nature of the appointment, pointing out that Dr. Ighrakpata is following in the footsteps of her late father, Prof. Alfred Chukwudi Unomah, who served as the college’s third substantive Provost from 1995 to 2002.
“This appointment is historic on two fronts,” Onoriode said. “Dr. Ighrakpata becomes the first female Provost in the college’s history, and she assumes the role 24 years after her father held the same position. It is a remarkable father-daughter legacy that speaks to dedication and excellence.”
He added that her emergence signals the rising profile of women in leadership across Delta State and expressed confidence that under her leadership, COE Warri would continue to produce teachers and leaders for the state and nation.
Onoriode, on behalf of the government and people of Uvwie LGA, wished the new Provost a tenure marked by peace, progress, and lasting impact.
