2ND ANNIVERSARY: Egbo Lists Infrastructure, Security, Healthcare Gains

...Assures Of More Projects in Ughelli North

Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has highlighted major achievements recorded by his administration in infrastructure, healthcare, security, education and staff welfare over the past two years, declaring that his government remains committed to delivering more development to the people.

Speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Egbo said his administration had remained focused on fulfilling its campaign promises despite the challenges facing local governments across the country.

He attributed the successes recorded so far to the support of the people, stakeholders and the leadership of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that the state's MORE Agenda had continued to provide direction for grassroots development.

The council boss said one of the flagship projects of his administration, the ultra-modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat Complex, is nearing completion, while work is progressing steadily on a new Secretariat Gate Complex aimed at improving security and enhancing the aesthetic outlook of the council headquarters.

According to him, the Legislative Assembly Complex has been rehabilitated and fully furnished with modern office facilities and an independent power supply to provide a conducive environment for legislative business.

Egbo also disclosed that his administration constructed multi-storey market stalls to boost commercial activities, completed a dual-court complex to strengthen access to justice, and commenced the rehabilitation of the long-neglected Post Office Road in front of Ughelli High Court II with reinforced concrete pavement, asphalt overlay and comprehensive drainage to tackle flooding.

In the health sector, the chairman announced the completion and operationalisation of the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities, while residential quarters for doctors and nurses are under construction.

He described the project as a landmark investment that would improve access to quality healthcare for residents across the local government.

On power supply, Egbo said the council procured and installed three 11/33 KVA transformers in strategic communities and restored electricity to the council secretariat through modern electrical infrastructure.

He added that a hybrid solar power system comprising solar panels and high-capacity solar streetlights had also been introduced to guarantee uninterrupted lighting while reducing dependence on the national grid.

The chairman said security remained a major priority, revealing that sustained collaboration with security agencies had restored peace in previously volatile areas, particularly along the Ogor, Evwreni and Ohoror axis of the East-West Highway.

He said the clearance of criminal hideouts had significantly reduced incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery along the Evwreni-Uwheru and Uvwiamuge-Agbarho corridors.

To further strengthen security operations, the council donated a fully equipped patrol vehicle to the Police Mobile Force, constructed a modern police post and renovated an acquired building at the DDPA Housing Estate, which now serves as the operational base for Operation Delta Sweep, while also accommodating personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Highlighting achievements in education, Egbo said the council procured and distributed over 300 school desks, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books and other learning materials to pupils in public primary schools through internally generated revenue.

He added that the administration had continued to partner the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board in teacher development, classroom rehabilitation and provision of additional educational facilities.

The council chairman also said his administration embarked on extensive desilting of drainage channels, especially along the East-West Road corridor in Agbarho, to reduce flooding, while reviving the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the local government.

On staff welfare, Egbo said all outstanding financial obligations owed members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees had been cleared, while approved welfare programmes had been sustained.

He disclosed that strategic offices within the council had been remodelled and official vehicles procured for key offices, including those of the Vice Chairman, Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Secretary to the Local Government, Head of Personnel Management, Chief Security Officer and an 18-seater bus for the Council Press Unit.

Looking ahead, Egbo pledged that the remaining years of his administration would focus on expanding infrastructure, strengthening healthcare delivery, improving education, enhancing security, empowering youths and women, promoting agriculture, protecting the environment and creating greater economic opportunities.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, while expressing appreciation to Governor Oborevwori, traditional rulers, political leaders, security agencies, civil servants, community leaders, the media and residents of Ughelli North for their continued support.

"Our achievements are the product of collective effort. As we begin the last lap of this administration, we remain determined to build a more peaceful, prosperous and progressive Ughelli North," Egbo said.
