China has expressed deep concern regarding the latest escalation of military tensions in the Middle East, calling on both the United States and Iran to immediately cease hostilities, exercise mutual restraint, and return to diplomatic negotiations. Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian warned that a return to open warfare would carry severe consequences for regional stability and served the strategic interests of no nation involved.
Lin emphasized that the preliminary outcomes and diplomatic progress achieved through recent negotiations were hard-won and should not be recklessly discarded. He reiterated that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries across the Middle East and the Gulf region must be strictly respected and upheld in accordance with international law. Responding to inquiries regarding reports of major US military asset deployments—including carrier strike groups and tactical fighter squadrons—alongside heightened travel advisories issued by multiple governments, Lin urged all parties to remain calm and pursue political solutions aimed at securing a full and durable ceasefire as soon as possible.
The Chinese government’s appeal comes amidst widespread concerns over the potential collapse of fragile diplomatic channels. Despite the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding last month, recent exchanges of strikes and escalating disputes surrounding strategic waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, have renewed fears of a wider regional confrontation. Beijing reaffirmed its willingness to engage with international partners to help cool down tensions, facilitate peaceful dialogue, and prevent further escalation across the Gulf region.
