China on Monday called for the respect of the sovereignty and security of Saudi Arabia and other nations amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.
During a press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that China opposes attacks against civilian facilities and emphasized that the sovereignty and security of Saudi Arabia and other regional countries must be respected. He added that Beijing advocates for resolving disputes through political and diplomatic channels to create the necessary conditions for an early restoration of peace and stability across the region.
The statement from the Chinese government follows Saudi Arabia's successful interception of ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group from Yemen last week. According to the Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government, those missiles had targeted the southern region of Saudi Arabia.
The Houthi missile attack occurred just hours after Yemen's Defense Ministry reported that its forces had struck the Sanaa airport runway. That military action was taken after the Houthis prevented official Yemeni flights from landing while allowing an Iranian aircraft to land, a move the ministry characterized as a violation of Yemeni territory.
These developments come as regional tensions remain exceptionally high, with retaliatory military strikes between the United States and Iran continuing for a 10th consecutive day on Monday.
