A significant political shift has occurred in Bauchi State as several former executive members of the All Progressives Congress in the Misau Local Government Area officially defected to the Peoples Redemption Party. The politicians cited deep-seated dissatisfaction with the current leadership model and the general management of internal affairs within the ruling party as the primary drivers of their exit.
The formal defection was announced during a well-attended political gathering coordinated by two prominent local leaders, Hon. Maiwada Bakoji Misau and Hon. Shehu Dubagari Misau. In their collective address, the organizers characterized the mass migration to the new party as a necessary political awakening. They explained that the decision was carefully made to champion the values of justice, equity, fairness, and inclusive leadership within the political landscape of Bauchi State.
Speaking on behalf of the entire defecting group, the former APC officials explained that their departure was not a sudden decision but rather the culmination of prolonged frustration. They pointed out that the ruling party has increasingly suffered from a severe lack of internal democracy, characterized by poor administrative leadership and a complete neglect of loyal grassroots members who form the backbone of the party's local structures. They emphasized that political participation should fundamentally focus on genuine service to humanity, community empowerment, and bringing about meaningful local development, values they believe have been lost in their former party.
Looking ahead, the newly integrated members pledged to channel their political capital and grassroots networks toward mobilizing massive support for the Peoples Redemption Party in preparation for the 2027 general elections. They expressed absolute confidence in the progressive vision of the PRP, stating that the party represents a viable alternative platform capable of addressing the immediate and long-term needs of the citizenry.
In response, the leadership of the Peoples Redemption Party warmly received the defectors, assuring them of a level playing field, equal opportunities, and immediate active participation in all party decision-making organs and grassroots activities. The party leaders used the opportunity to reiterate the PRP's foundational commitment to justice, unity, transparency, and people-oriented governance. They urged both old and new members to remain united as the party begins to scale up its strategic preparations and outreach efforts for the upcoming general elections.
