Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Wednesday inaugurated the newly elected chairmen for the state's 21 local government areas, sternly charging them to remain consistently available to the citizens who voted them into office. During the swearing-in ceremony held in the state capital, Yola, Fintiri emphasized that the newly minted officials were not elected to reside in the state capital but to maintain constant, direct physical contact with the residents of their respective local government areas.
The governor explicitly told the council chairmen that their constituents must be able to reach them within their specific localities as often as necessary. Addressing the council leaders who had converged on Yola alongside thousands of their enthusiastic supporters, Fintiri reiterated his stance on local governance, warning that he would not tolerate chairmen abandoning their administrative bases to loiter in the capital city.
The 21 council chairmen, who were officially administered the oath of office on Wednesday by the Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, secured their mandates during the local government elections conducted last month on June 13, 2026. The new leadership structure at the grassroots level features one female chairman among the group. They are expected to pilot the affairs of the third tier of democratic governance alongside 226 newly elected councillors across the state.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated officials, the newly elected chairman of Yola North Local Government Area, Ibrahim Jimeta, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his unwavering commitment to sustaining democratic principles at the grassroots level. He assured the residents of the various local government areas that all the chairmen and councillors would remain accessible to the public and work dedicatedly to deliver the benefits of democracy directly to their communities.
