Israeli Forces Execute Cross-Border Incursions into Southern Syria Detaining Civilian and Expanding Position in Quneitra and Daraa

Israeli military units launched a series of coordinated ground operations across the countryside of southern Syria, carrying out cross-border incursions into the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa. The developments involved the detention of a Syrian civilian during a residential raid, the deployment of heavy engineering equipment, and the establishment of temporary military checkpoints within sovereign Syrian territory. The escalated activity represents the latest series of operational movements by Israeli ground forces in the region following the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between the two nations.

According to official reports published by Syrian state news agency SANA, several Israeli military vehicles crossed the border corridor and advanced into the village of Western Samdaniyah, located in the northern countryside of Quneitra governorate. During the ground operation, armed troops raided a local residential property, searched the premises, and forcibly detained an unidentified Syrian resident before withdrawing back across the border area with the individual in custody. In parallel with the residential raid, Israeli artillery units positioned along the frontier reportedly launched shelling strikes targeting agricultural lands on the outskirts of the nearby village of Taranja, although no immediate human casualties were recorded from the artillery fire.

Simultaneously, state media outlet Alikhbariah TV reported that Israeli military assets executed a pre-dawn push into neighboring Daraa province. A mechanized column comprising three armored vehicles and a heavy bulldozer crossed into the Yarmouk Basin region in the western countryside of Daraa, moving directly toward the rural villages of Maariyah and Al-Ardah. Eyewitnesses and local community sources indicated that the military bulldozer cleared access roads through local farmlands while troops constructed an operational checkpoint inside the village of Al-Ardah to monitor civilian transit. Additionally, Israeli forces dropped warning leaflets across surrounding settlements, cautioning local inhabitants against attempting to block rural roadways or interfere with the movement of military vehicles in the sector. Aerial reconnaissance activity was also noted across the border zone, with reconnaissance vehicles advancing near the village of Saida Al-Hanout alongside continuous drone surveillance.

The Israeli military did not issue an immediate public statement or official comment regarding the specific ground operations, residential raids, or civilian detentions reported by Syrian media sources. However, ground incursions, aerial strikes, search operations, and temporary checkpoint installations have become regular occurrences throughout Quneitra and Daraa over recent months. The frequency and depth of these military movements intensified significantly following the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's administration in December 2024. Following the political transition in Damascus, Israeli authorities unilaterally declared the 1974 disengagement agreement void and moved military forces into the United Nations-monitored buffer zone along the Golan Heights to establish what Tel Aviv defines as a forward security line.

Syria’s central administration and foreign ministry officials have repeatedly condemned the ongoing operations, characterizing them as clear violations of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. Syrian authorities have formally appealed to the United Nations and the international community to intervene and compel an immediate, unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces to positions behind the designated 1974 disengagement line. The military activity also follows statements from United Nations leadership calling for an end to sovereign territorial violations and reaffirming international legal consensus regarding the status of the Golan Heights. Despite rising diplomatic friction, regional security observers emphasize that military movements along the southern Syrian frontier remain highly volatile as ground forces expand their physical footprint across key border communities.
