Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has confirmed his deputy, Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, putting an end to months of speculation over a possible change in the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress ticket.
Speaking while receiving a delegation from the Gumel Emirate at the Government House in Dutse, the governor stated that his decision was based on Gumel’s competence, professionalism, loyalty, and significant contributions to the success of his administration. He noted that the deputy governor had consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to the government’s development agenda, making him highly deserving of another opportunity to serve.
The governor’s confirmation effectively dispels widespread political rumors that he might replace his deputy ahead of the 2027 polls. These speculations were partly fueled by perceptions that Gumel is a close political associate of former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who had been at odds with the current governor until a recent reconciliation.
In his response, Gumel expressed profound appreciation to Governor Namadi and the leadership of the APC for the confidence reposed in him. He acknowledged that many others were qualified for the position and described the governor's decision to retain him as a great honor and favor.
The deputy governor pledged to remain entirely loyal and committed to supporting the governor in delivering on the administration’s developmental goals, promising to continue giving his best to ensure the success and progress of the state.
