The Federal Government of Nigeria has renamed the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar coastal highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made the disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday, stating that the President first conceived the vision for the ambitious infrastructural project approximately 27 years ago.
Umahi explained that the decision to rename the entire stretch of the coastal highway was made in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors, and the entire staff of the Ministry of Works. He described the project as the realization of a long-term dream held by the President.
Upon completion, the massive highway is estimated to cost 15 trillion Naira. Recognized as one of the hallmark legacy projects of the Tinubu administration, with a section already nearing completion, the development of the road has been trailed by various controversies since construction works commenced in March 2024.
