The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has declared that the 2027 general election will be a direct contest between the people of Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Obi made the remark while reiterating his stance that he won the 2023 presidential election but was rigged out of the process. In a viral online video, the former governor of Anambra State insisted that genuine leadership is currently missing in Nigeria.
He stated that despite losing the official results of the last election due to irregularities, his primary focus is on the future. He expressed his belief that the next election will see the public taking a stand against the government in office because Nigerians have had enough and are determined to see things change. He noted that citizens have sacrificed everything, yet the country is still not working, emphasizing that leadership is the single missing component.
Obi added that the electorate will ultimately decide the nation's direction, expressing confidence that Nigerians have learned their lessons and will find a way forward.
Clarifying his personal ambitions, Obi explained that he is not desperate to become president, but is instead desperate to see Nigeria function properly. He noted that his goal is to help create a society where the children of ordinary citizens have hope and where any child can rise to prominence regardless of their background, concluding that it is vital to make the country work because the populace has suffered enough.
