President Bola Tinubu Approves 26 High-Level Appointments Across Ten Nigerian Federal Agencies and Commissions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the appointment of twenty-six individuals to leadership positions and governing boards across ten federal government agencies and commissions, marking a significant administrative restructuring aimed at enhancing governance and operational efficiency across key public sectors. The sweeping appointments, announced in an official statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, take immediate effect and touch upon vital government institutions covering energy, national statistics, fiscal policy, literacy, and housing infrastructure. The most prominent among the new postings is the appointment of the former governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose, as the new chairman of the governing board of the Rural Electrification Agency. Fayose will lead the agency’s leadership alongside newly appointed non-executive directors Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, working in conjunction with the incumbent Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors who constitute the remainder of the governing board.

In another major appointment, President Tinubu designated retired Major General Junaid Bindawa to chair the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, an essential body tasked with advising the federal government on income policies, public sector compensation structures, and wage adjustments. Major General Bindawa will serve alongside former Lagos State House of Representatives member Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, who was appointed as the executive secretary of the commission. To ensure equitable regional representation on the wages commission, the president appointed several commissioners representing distinct geopolitical zones, including Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian representing Benue State, Oladele Olatubosun representing Oyo State, and Yakubu Umar Barde representing Kaduna State. The broader membership of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission is further expanded by the inclusion of Dr. Mai Adamu Yau from Borno State, Ginika Florence Tor from Enugu State, Engineer Lawrence Okoh from Edo State, and Bello Morenike Iyabode representing Kogi State.

The presidential directive also involved strategic redeployments and fresh executive postings across economic, energy, and developmental institutions. Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who previously served as the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was officially reassigned to assume the role of Secretary at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission. In the health and demographic sector, Dr. Abuh Mohammed was named the new Director-General of the National Population Commission, where he will oversee vital statistical research and national demographic planning initiatives. To bolster the nation's energy management apparatus, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, while Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was selected to serve as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, which guides nuclear energy research and technology applications in Nigeria.

In the agricultural technology sector, Engineer Julius Oloro, a former local government council chairman, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara-based National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation. Oloro fills the vacancy left by former chief executive Dr. A.R. Kamal, who passed away in January. Furthermore, President Tinubu formally constituted the governing board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, naming Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as its chairman. Joining Dr. Saidu on the commission's board are newly appointed members Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele, and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola, who collectively bear the responsibility of enforcing fiscal discipline, financial transparency, and public expenditure monitoring across government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

Educational and housing management agencies also saw key personnel updates under the presidential executive order. Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, stepping into the role previously occupied by Professor Shu'aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to head the Petroleum Trust Development Fund. Meanwhile, to fill the vacancy created by Mathias Byuan—the former Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority who resigned to contest the gubernatorial election in Benue State—President Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja. The presidency described Iorja as an accomplished economist, legal scholar, and academic who was serving as the secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission prior to his federal appointment. The administration emphasized that all twenty-six appointees are expected to bring institutional integrity and administrative excellence to their respective roles to drive national development forward.
