The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State suffered a major political setback following the defection of several party members to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, the NDC senatorial candidate for Kano South, received the defectors during a gathering in the Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.
The shift forms part of a series of defections from the ruling party to the NDC across Kano State, triggered by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso joining the NDC ticket as its 2027 vice presidential candidate.
Simultaneously, reports indicate counter-defections as some political figures leave Kwankwaso's camp for the APC as political realignment intensifies across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
