The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that elections will be conducted in the restored Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II, and Isoko North II State Constituencies during the 2027 General Elections.
The confirmation was made during a stakeholders' engagement held in Asaba following the judgments of the Federal High Court, which restored the three state constituencies after years of advocacy and legal processes.
According to INEC, the commission will implement the court's decisions by ensuring that eligible voters in the restored constituencies participate fully in the 2027 electoral process. The announcement was welcomed by political leaders and stakeholders, who described it as a significant step toward strengthening democratic representation and upholding the rule of law.
Reacting to the development, Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the restoration of the constituencies as the outcome of sustained advocacy by well-meaning Deltans and the collective efforts of stakeholders committed to correcting what he termed a longstanding injustice.
The senator disclosed that his office made several representations to the electoral commission in 2025 and 2026 in support of the restoration of the constituencies. He noted that these efforts, alongside the decisive judgments of the Federal High Court, paved the way for the successful outcome.
Dafinone commended INEC for taking steps to comply with the court's rulings and expressed appreciation to all individuals and groups whose contributions made the restoration possible.
"I commend INEC for this important step and express my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this restoration a reality," the senator said.
He also praised the resilience and determination of the people of Ughelli South and Ethiope East, stating that their unwavering pursuit of justice played a crucial role in achieving the restoration of their constituencies.
Describing the development as a historic milestone, Senator Dafinone congratulated the people of Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II, and Isoko North II, expressing confidence that they would now enjoy full democratic representation through participation in the 2027 General Elections.
Political observers have described INEC's confirmation as a major boost for electoral inclusion in Delta State, noting that the restored constituencies will once again have the opportunity to elect representatives into the Delta State House of Assembly in accordance with the Federal High Court's judgments.
