Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Wednesday that its forces executed coordinated missile and drone strikes against US military positions in Erbil, situated in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.
According to official IRGC statements, the combined operation targeted key technical and logistical infrastructure within the Erbil military compound. The Iranian military claimed the strikes successfully destroyed a maintenance facility, technical equipment storage warehouses, and the guidance systems for an American surveillance aerostat balloon deployed at the base. The statement further asserted that the barrage ignited fuel storage tanks on-site and resulted in military casualties among American personnel.
The IRGC framed the assault as direct retribution for a series of overnight strikes conducted by the US military.
The incident follows an official announcement late Tuesday by US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirming that American forces initiated a fresh wave of strikes targeting IRGC assets inside Iran. CENTCOM stated the action was launched in response to Iranian threats against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and personnel deployed to the region. Following the US operation, Iranian state media reported multiple explosions across coastal and southern regions, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak.
