The Delta State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt.Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on his conferment with the Christian Icon Award by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja.
Funkekeme, who is the Governor’s Senior Policy Adviser, described the award as recognition of Oborevwori’s commitment to public service, people-oriented governance, peacebuilding and the promotion of values consistent with Christian teachings.
In a statement issued in Asaba, Funkekeme said the award was significant because it recognised leadership not merely in words but also in service to the people, particularly through policies and programmes designed to improve livelihoods and expand opportunities across Delta State.
He said Oborevwori’s administration had demonstrated its commitment to the welfare of Deltans through infrastructure development, investments in healthcare and education, workers’ welfare and social intervention programmes.
According to him, the governor’s MORE Agenda of Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security, provides a framework for translating public expectations into practical development outcomes.
Funkekeme noted that the administration’s investment in roads, bridges and urban infrastructure was helping to improve connectivity, facilitate commercial activities and strengthen links between communities.
He cited major road and bridge projects across the state as evidence of the government’s emphasis on infrastructure as a driver of economic growth.
He also pointed to interventions in the health sector, including the provision of modern diagnostic equipment, dialysis machines and ultrasound scanners, as well as the renovation of primary healthcare centres.
These initiatives, he said, reflected the importance the administration attached to improving access to medical services and strengthening healthcare delivery.
On education and human capital development, Funkekeme said the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching personnel, rehabilitation of school facilities and investment in technical and tertiary education demonstrated the government’s recognition that sustainable development depends on equipping citizens with relevant knowledge and skills.
He further commended the administration’s attention to workers’ welfare and social protection, including the payment of promotion arrears, pension benefits and support for vulnerable residents through various empowerment schemes.
Funkekeme said such interventions were important measures of responsible leadership because they addressed the needs of workers, retirees, women, young people and other groups whose welfare remained central to inclusive development.
He added that the governor’s emphasis on peace and security had helped sustain an environment in which businesses, communities and public institutions could pursue their activities, stressing that development required cooperation among government, traditional institutions, religious bodies and other stakeholders.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors coordinator said the Christian Icon Award should also serve as a call for continued service, urging the governor to sustain his commitment to transparency, compassion, accountability and equitable development across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He said public recognition carried greater meaning when it was accompanied by measurable improvements in the lives of citizens, adding that the ultimate test of leadership was the ability to translate promises into tangible benefits for the people.
Funkekeme congratulated Oborevwori on the honour and expressed confidence that the governor would continue to pursue policies aimed at improving living standards, strengthening public institutions and advancing the development of Delta State.
He urged Deltans to support initiatives that promote peace, unity and collective progress, noting that government and citizens shared responsibility for building a more prosperous state.
