Have you ever made a promise you never fulfilled, even when it was not your intention to disappoint. I guess yes! We even disappoint ourselves sometimes, much less others. Therefore, we all need help from someone who does not disappoint; who is trustworthy and reliable. Seeing that we cannot help ourselves, we sometimes turn to idols and diviners for help. When we look up to idols and diviners, we are to expect deceit, visions that lie, dreams that are false, comfort in vain, etc. people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd. From these descriptions, it is clear that the conditions of those who consult idols and diviners become worse than when they had not done so.
However, in contrast, I will draw your attention to the Lord from whom we should ‘ask’ in time of need. Ours is to ask, while it is the Lord’s to give. Note that He gives to ‘everyone’. Jesus Himself says, “For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened’ (matthew 7:8). Indeed, everyone who asks from the Lord finds Him to be a dependable God.
