It seems to me that in your personal relationship with Jesus, what others say about Him is not as important as what you say about Him, based on your own understanding of Him. When He asked His disciples about who people say He is, He followed it up by finding out what they (the disciples) thought of Him. It means that no matter how much I gain from other people’s knowledge about Jesus, my personal and intimate knowledge cannot be overlooked. And this can only come out of a determined personal pursuit in daily personal fellowship in Bible reading and study and most especially prayers, with a heart poised to obey. Flesh and blood cannot reveal Jesus to you.
While some thought He was Elijah or some other persons, His disciple’s view – at least as expressed by Peter – was that He was the Messiah. Today such followers that know this about Him is duty bound to tell others. We have become busier today in telling people how much earthly prosperity and miracles we got from Jesus than in telling them the good news of salvation through the Messiah. When was the last time you won a soul for the Lord? Remember that he that wins souls is wise.
