Rajon Rondo will miss at least three NBA games after the Dallas Mavericks revealed the extent of his facial injuries on Monday.
Rondo has an orbital fracture to his left eye and a nasal fracture after team-mate Richard Jefferson accidently kneed him in the face during Saturday's 108-93 win over the Orlando Magic.
The 28-year-old, who missed Monday's clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves, will not travel to the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings during the week as he undergoes additional testing and evaluation.
Rondo's status will be officially updated later this week, with the requirement of surgery still unknown.
The point guard lasted all but 98 seconds against the Magic at Amway Center in Orlando.
After poking the ball away from Magic guard Elfrid Payton, Rondo fell to the floor but as he found his feet, the former Boston Celtics ran into the knee of team-mate Jefferson.
Rondo, who left the court with blood pouring from his nose and never returned, has been averaging 9.2 points, 6.5 assists and five rebounds since joining the Mavericks (32-17) in December.
