A man suspected of killing and
dismembering his six children and pregnant wife in the Volga city of
Nizhny Novgorod has been detained in central Russia, a spokeswoman for
the Russian Interior Ministry's Vladimir region said.
The
suspect, Oleg Belov, was wounded by police gunfire while resisting
arrest and remained in stable condition Wednesday after a surgery,
according to local health officials.
Kindergarten workers went to the police after “the children had stopped visiting preschool since July 25,” the Russian Prosecutor-Generals’s Office said in a statement. Russian police have arrested the man suspected of killing and dismembering his six young children along with his wife and mother
Nobody
was answering the door in their apartment in the city’s Nizhegorodsky
district, and the police were forced to enter through the window.
The
federal Investigative Committee said the dismembered remains of the
children, all under the age of 6, were discovered Tuesday in the
family's apartment in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The body of his
pregnant wife also was found in the apartment.
At a separate location, police found remains of a woman believed to be his mother.
Police
arrested the suspect late Tuesday in the Vladimir region, where he was
hiding in his mother-in-law's home. Police suspect he planned to kill
her too.
