Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has firmly rejected media reports suggesting he intends to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such claims as unfounded, baseless, and driven by those who seek to undermine the party.
The denial was issued in a press statement signed by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, over the weekend and shared with NewsDirect.
Kula condemned a recent article by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Alia is plotting to exit the APC amid an alleged crisis within the party in Benue State.
He told the public that the story is entirely false and characteristic of sensationalist reporting by some online platforms.
Kula noted that as opposition governors continue to join the APC because of the party’s policies and strong performance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, it is both laughable and unfounded for any media outlet to suggest that Governor Alia would consider leaving the party he is actively sponsoring in Benue State.
The statement further stressed the Governor’s unwavering loyalty to the APC. He has been deeply involved in party affairs, including endorsing President Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election. His attendance at both the zonal and national endorsement events, held at the banquet hall in the Presidential Villa, directly contradicts the false narrative of any strained relationship with the Presidency.
Kula also clarified that the APC leadership in Benue State is not experiencing any crisis, as claimed. Under the chairmanship of Hon. Benjamin Omale, the party enjoys a strong and effective working relationship with the Governor, demonstrated at both state and national levels, including during the recent APC Summit in Abuja.
Expressing concern over the ease with which falsehoods are published, Kula questioned how a media outlet could openly cast doubt on a governor’s attendance at a publicly documented event where he appeared alongside his colleagues with full media coverage.
He urged readers and the public to dismiss such fake news and instead depend on credible sources for accurate information.
“The Governor has no intention of defecting from the APC, particularly as Benue State stands to gain significantly under the party and the Tinubu-led presidency. He remains committed to delivering effective governance to the people of Benue on the APC platform on which they elected him,” Kula concluded.
