A dramatic scene unfolded at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday when a man identified as Adamu Muhammed Tenimu reportedly collapsed after learning that his wife had given birth to a set of triplets — all girls.
Witnesses at the hospital said Tenimu fainted from shock moments after the news was broken to him.
He was immediately assisted by medical staff and bystanders, who managed to revive him.
The newborns and their mother are said to be in good health and are currently under close observation at the hospital’s neonatal unit.
After regaining consciousness, Tenimu, who is currently unemployed, spoke with journalists, expressing his emotional turmoil.
While he acknowledged the birth of the triplets as a blessing, he admitted feeling overwhelmed by the financial implications of raising three children at once.
“I am grateful to God for this miracle, but I am deeply worried,” he said tearfully.
“We were only preparing for one baby because we couldn’t afford regular scans. Now there are three, and I have no idea how we are going to cope with the expenses.”
He went on to describe the family’s financial hardship, noting that they could barely prepare for a single child and now face the daunting task of providing for three infants at once.
The father of the triplets revealed that even purchasing basic necessities like baby formula and diapers was already proving difficult.
The situation has drawn concern and sympathy from members of the community, who are calling on the government and charitable organizations to offer assistance.
One of the family’s relatives confirmed that while the birth went smoothly, the couple urgently needed support to manage their new reality.
“This family needs urgent help,” the relative said. “The babies are healthy, but the parents don’t have the means to care for them. We are appealing to the government, NGOs, and kind-hearted Nigerians to come to their aid.”
Close friends and community members have also begun mobilizing support, urging authorities to step in.
Nuhu Alhassan, a colleague of the father, called on the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to intervene, describing Tenimu as a responsible and law-abiding citizen who now finds himself in a difficult situation.
Echoing similar sentiments, another well-wisher, Sikiru Olamide, said the joy of childbirth should not be overshadowed by financial anxiety.
“No one should face this kind of hardship alone,” he stated. “This is the time to support one another.”
The triplets, weighing 1.8kg, 2.0kg, and 2.3kg respectively, are reported to be doing well under hospital care.
As news of their birth spreads, many hope that support will come quickly to help the family adjust to their new reality and provide the babies with a stable start to life.
