SOKOTO, Nigeria — Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is uniquely reserved for courageous politicians who are genuinely committed to public service over personal interests.
Tambuwal made the remarks on Wednesday during an official event welcoming the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, into the ADC. Kalenjeni recently resigned from his position and formally defected from Nigeria's ruling All Provinces Congress (APC).
Addressing a gathering of party loyalists, Tambuwal urged public servants who prioritize the welfare of the citizenry to look beyond partisan pressure and align themselves with the ADC. He maintained that leaving a ruling party requires a high level of moral resolve and dedication to the common good.
“Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC,” Tambuwal asserted.
The former governor leveled heavy accusations against the APC, alleging that the ruling party has actively deployed tactics of intimidation to dissuade opposition politicians from defecting to the ADC. He further alleged that the ruling party is deliberately trying to engineer internal divisions within the opposition ranks because it now views the ADC as its most significant political threat ahead of future electoral cycles.
Shifting his focus to national affairs, Tambuwal delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, specifically targeting the volatile security situation across the federation. He argued that an increasing number of Nigerians have grown deeply disillusioned with the APC government due to its perceived inability to effectively curb persistent insecurity, banditry, and communal violence.
Tambuwal concluded by praising Kalenjeni for relinquishing his executive council chairmanship to defect without demanding any political concessions or preconditions. He characterized the local government boss's exit from the ruling party as a highly commendable sacrifice that aligns with the foundational principles of the opposition movement.
