LAND DISPUTE: Hon. Temitope Ogungbo Denies Allegations, Labels Sahara Reporters Story as Character Assassination

The camp of Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, Supervisor for Education in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, has strongly refuted a recent publication by Sahara Reporters accusing him of leading thugs to assault a relative over a land dispute.

The online platform, in a story titled “LAGOS LG EDUCATION SUPERVISOR, TEMITOPE OGUNGBO, ACCUSED OF LEADING THUGS TO ATTACK, STAB BROTHER IN LAND DISPUTE”, alleged that Ogungbo was involved in an attack against a member of the Balogun family during a disagreement involving land ownership.

In a swift response issued by OTS Media, Ogungbo’s media team described the report as “fabricated” and an attempt to smear the reputation of a public servant who has distinguished himself in his duties.

“We categorically state that this report is a false narrative targeted at maligning the image of a diligent and responsible public officer,” the statement read. “Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan has consistently demonstrated excellence in his role and was recently recognized by the Conference of Chief Press Secretaries in Lagos as the best-performing Supervisor.”

The statement clarified that Ogungbo legally purchased a parcel of land from the Balogun family and fulfilled all agreed-upon conditions. The ongoing dispute, according to OTS Media, stems from internal disagreements within the family regarding the sharing formula of proceeds—a matter which has no direct involvement from the Supervisor.

“Unfortunately, in an attempt to sensationalize a family disagreement, one Mr. Israel Balogun has dragged Hon. Ogungbo’s name into the controversy,” the statement continued.

Video evidence presented by Ogungbo’s team reportedly supports his non-involvement in the alleged attack. The statement also criticized Sahara Reporters for failing to contact Ogungbo for his side of the story before publication, calling the move a violation of basic journalism ethics.

A formal complaint has been lodged at the Area “J” Police Station, Elemoro, where all parties have been invited for investigation and mediation.

“We urge the public to disregard this misleading publication. Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan remains committed to upholding the dignity of the office he holds and will not be distracted by attempts to tarnish his image,” the statement concluded.

The matter remains under police investigation as stakeholders await further developments.
