The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has categorically rejected claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is manipulated by hidden power brokers.
Speaking on Thursday at the 2025 OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture in Ile-Ife, Wike insisted that Tinubu is the decisive leader steering Nigeria’s government independently.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and senior advocate, addressed a crowd of scholars, students, and dignitaries, asserting that President Tinubu has demonstrated boldness and control.
“He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge,” the minister declared.
The minister said Tinubu’s willingness to confront sensitive economic reforms, noting that previous presidents lacked similar resolve.
“So many people would still be benefiting from fuel subsidy fraud had Tinubu not removed it,” Wike stated.
He praised the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates as essential moves to “sanitize Nigeria’s economic structure.”
Reflecting on Nigeria’s broader challenges, Wike acknowledged the nation’s historical underperformance and the “visible and widening” cracks in national unity.
Yet, he remained optimistic about Nigeria’s future under strong leadership and collective effort.
“The desired Nigeria won’t fall from heaven but will require the vision, sacrifice, hard work and purpose of all citizens. Let us leave for the next generation resolves and not regrets,” he urged.
Addressing critics who have called for his removal, Wike dismissed such claims and reaffirmed his dedication to his responsibilities.
“There is something wrong with those who claim he lacks the capacity to deliver,” he added.
