Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared that the state remains the safest in Nigeria, despite what he described as deliberate misinformation by political detractors.
He made the remark on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 13, Mr Abayomi Oladipo, at the Lion Building in Enugu.
Governor Mbah said his administration had invested heavily in proactive security measures and infrastructure to ensure public safety and combat all forms of crime.
He stated that the success of his administration’s plan to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion is deeply tied to the state’s internal security architecture.
According to him, significant resources and political will were committed from the outset of his administration to deal with insecurity across the state.
He noted that Enugu now operates with a sophisticated Command and Control Centre capable of both preventing and resolving crimes.
Mbah also said that the establishment of a Distress Response Squad, the deployment of over 150 patrol vehicles, and the installation of AI-enabled surveillance cameras across the state have made Enugu a model of security.
“Enugu is the most secure city in the country, unarguably,” Mbah said, adding that some individuals were deliberately spreading false information online by recycling old incidents and portraying them as current events in Enugu.
He claimed that in some cases, images and videos from other regions had been falsely attributed to Enugu in an effort to mislead the public.
Earlier, AIG Abayomi Oladipo said he had been briefed on the security situation by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, and his Anambra counterpart, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
He confirmed that coordinated plans were already in place to strengthen inter-state security synergy and praised Governor Mbah for the state’s improved safety.
“I can tell you that what we have put in place is really working for us. I want to thank you for the support and your cooperation with the police and other security agencies in the state,” Oladipo said.
