The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed a second violent attack on the Ihima residence of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Okehi Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, was revealed in a statement issued by the Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Media Office in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to her media aide, armed assailants stormed the family compound and vandalised glass windows and doors. However, the intrusion was repelled through the swift intervention of officers from the Okehi Police Division, working in tandem with local vigilantes and concerned community youths.
One suspect, identified as Suberu Josa — a known ritualist and political opponent — was arrested at the scene. He was reportedly caught with a cutlass and charms, and has confessed to being involved in three separate attacks on the senator’s family residence.
Other attackers, said to be armed with dangerous weapons, remain at large as of press time.
This latest assault follows an earlier attack on April 15, 2025, for which no arrests were made. The arrest of Josa marks the first breakthrough in what appears to be a pattern of coordinated violence targeting the embattled female lawmaker.
The timing of the attack has drawn concern, coming just weeks after the Federal Government filed criminal charges against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. The charges followed her public allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which led to her controversial six-month suspension from the National Assembly.
“We call on the public to remain calm and steadfast in the pursuit of justice. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s commitment to truth and her tireless representation of her constituents should not be met with violence or intimidation,” her media office said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident to The Guardian in a telephone interview.
He affirmed that the arrested suspect is cooperating with investigators, and pledged that other suspects would be tracked down and prosecuted.
The police assured residents of their continued efforts to safeguard lives and property, as investigations continue into the motive and actors behind the attack.
