Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asserted that he is not beholden to anyone and clarified that he does not oppose President Bola Tinubu. He remarked that President Tinubu is more astute than his rivals, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, Sowunmi, who previously served as the spokesman for PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, addressed his recent visit to President Tinubu, stating that it should not be interpreted as a betrayal of his loyalty to Atiku.
“I am free to make my own choices as an adult. I am not tied to anyone, nor am I anti-Tinubu. I stand by my words and my opinions,” he said.
He further noted, “What sets Bola apart from others is his varied approach to different situations. By far, he (Tinubu) is more intelligent than his opponents.”
Sowunmi is not the only former spokesman for Atiku who has had a meeting with Tinubu. In November 2024, Daniel Bwala, a prominent critic of the president and also a former spokesman for Atiku, was appointed as Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication following his meeting with the president.
