The Nigerian equities market extended its bullish trend last week, recording a notable ₦513 billion gain over just three trading sessions, as the Eid-el-Kabir and Democracy Day holidays shortened the trading week.
Market capitalisation rose to ₦72.788 trillion from ₦72.275 trillion in the previous week, while the All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 0.71 per cent, closing at 115,429.54 points, up from 114,616.75 points.
Despite the shortened week, trading remained active. The market opened on a bearish note on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, with investors losing ₦377.89 billion by the close of the session. However, sentiment shifted on Wednesday, 11 June, with a recovery that added ₦404.58 billion to the market’s value.
Following Thursday’s Democracy Day holiday, trading resumed on Friday, 13 June, when the market closed the week on a high, delivering a profit of ₦485.82 billion to investors.
In total, investors traded 2.057 billion shares valued at ₦51.015 billion in 65,016 transactions throughout the week. This was lower than the 3.214 billion shares worth ₦76.348 billion exchanged the previous week across 64,156 deals.
The Financial Services Industry dominated the activity chart, accounting for 1.060 billion shares valued at ₦26.371 billion in 27,201 deals. This represented 51.55 per cent of the total volume and 51.69 per cent of the total value.
The Services Industry followed, with 490.276 million shares worth ₦1.586 billion traded in 3,865 deals, while the Consumer Goods Industry came third with a turnover of 122.795 million shares valued at ₦5.841 billion in 7,638 deals.
The top three most traded equities by volume were Tantalizer Plc, Access Holdings Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc, which collectively accounted for 693.553 million shares worth ₦9.957 billion across 7,661 transactions. This amounted to 33.72 per cent of the total trading volume and 19.52 per cent of the total value for the week.
In terms of price movements, fifty-five equities saw gains, an improvement on the previous week’s fifty-three gainers. Thirty-nine equities closed lower, fewer than the forty-three decliners recorded the prior week. Fifty-four equities remained unchanged, compared to fifty-two in the preceding week.
Legend Internet Plc recorded the highest percentage gain, rising by 32.77 per cent. Berger Paints Plc followed with a 30.73 per cent increase, while Ellah Lakes Plc appreciated by 27.35 per cent.
Conversely, John Holt Plc suffered the steepest decline, falling by 18.42 per cent. Industrial & Medical Gases Nigeria Plc shed 12.16 per cent, and RT Briscoe Plc dropped by 10 per cent.
