Residents of the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) gathered at the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ikeja to protest against the renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya for another term as chairman.
Carrying placards and banners, the demonstrators expressed their discontent with Akinsanya’s leadership, claiming that his administration has failed to bring about meaningful progress in the LCDA.
Their concerns were not limited to Akinsanya; they also criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC leader Enilolobo for allegedly backing his candidacy.
Comrade Olokodana Bukhari, representing the protesters, delivered a stern warning to the APC leadership, stating that Akinsanya’s renomination could lead to significant political repercussions
“Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya has been designated as the party’s candidate for the upcoming elections. We want to inform the party leadership that he is unfit to represent our LCDA. Supporting his candidacy would be a recipe for disaster in 2025 and could jeopardize the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections,” Bukhari stated.
Bukhari further accused Akinsanya of aligning himself with individuals who, in his view, have not acted in the party’s best interests. He pointed out that Akinsanya failed to deliver results for the APC in previous elections and questioned his dedication to the party’s objectives.
He noted that the council’s performance has consistently been poor, often ranking at the bottom of the state’s monthly development reports. Bukhari argued that Akinsanya’s leadership has led to stagnation and underdevelopment.
“All the protesters you see here are residents of the LCDA with no political affiliations. We urge the party leadership to reconsider Hon. Akinsanya’s candidacy,” he added.
Mrs. Dayo Aderinmola, a prominent female leader in the area, called on the APC to investigate the issues raised in the formal petition, emphasizing that the community has seen little development during Akinsanya’s leadership.
Dr. Adeola Jokomba, the APC state secretary, spoke to the protesters gathered outside the secretariat. He assured them that their concerns would be taken seriously and warned against any attempts by outside parties to take over the protest.
Jokomba acknowledged the formal complaint by signing the letter presented and promised that party officials would reach out to the group’s leader, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, before the week’s end.
