Dangote Foundation Distributes 10,000 Bags of Rice to Vulnerable Households in Cross River

Calabar, Nigeria – July 30, 2025 | In a bid to cushion the impact of rising food insecurity in the country, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 10,000 bags of rice to vulnerable households, persons with disabilities, widows, and other underprivileged residents across Cross River State.
Each bag of rice weighs 10 kilograms and forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing National Food Intervention Programme, which targets over one million disadvantaged Nigerians across the country.
The official flag-off ceremony took place in Calabar and had in attendance the Secretary to the Cross River State Government, Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh, who represented the State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu. Commending the gesture, Prof. Owan-Enoh described the donation as a powerful demonstration of what public-private partnerships can achieve in reducing the burden of hardship among citizens.
“This impactful gesture is part of a nationwide food intervention effort and a testament to the power of collaboration between government and the private sector,” he said. “On behalf of the Governor and the people of Cross River, we extend heartfelt appreciation to the Aliko Dangote Foundation. This support uplifts our people and aligns seamlessly with the 'People First' agenda of the state government.”
Speaking at the event, Head of Operations at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mr. Edero Victor Ejiro, said the food distribution effort spans all 774 local government areas of Nigeria. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to complement state-level food security efforts and bring direct relief to those most in need.
“We are here to distribute 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to the people of Cross River State,” Ejiro stated. “This is part of our national food programme to reach the grassroots — market women, widows, persons living with disabilities, artisans, and others affected by economic hardship. Our aim is to support state governments and help families manage current challenges.”
Ejiro expressed satisfaction with the distribution plan developed by the Cross River State Government, noting that it reflects a sincere commitment to ensuring that the rice gets to the intended beneficiaries.

A large number of residents turned out to receive their share of the food relief, with many expressing joy and appreciation for the support. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Victoria Edem Ekpenyong, a widow, offered prayers for Aliko Dangote and thanked the Foundation for remembering the poor during difficult times.
Local government-level distributions are also underway, with hundreds of households receiving food items and lauding the initiative as timely and impactful.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation, which has operated for over three decades, continues to focus on key areas such as nutrition, education, and economic empowerment—using strategic interventions to improve the lives of Nigerians across the country.
