The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a strong advisory to Nigerian travellers, cautioning them against the misuse of United States entry visas.
The warning follows concerns raised by the U.S. Government over the improper use of travel visas by some Nigerian citizens, particularly those engaging in activities inconsistent with their visa type.
The NCS emphasized that U.S. authorities maintain continuous monitoring of visa holders even after arrival. Any breach of immigration laws, including false declarations or violations of trade and customs regulations, could lead to visa revocation and legal action.
Nigerian travellers are therefore urged to strictly adhere to the terms of their visa classification.
In line with international travel protocols, the Customs Service also reminded passengers to declare any cash exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent at entry and exit points.
Travellers are further advised to avoid transporting prohibited items and ensure full compliance with customs regulations.
The statement reiterated the importance of maintaining lawful behavior both within Nigeria and abroad.
The NCS warned that fraudulent acts committed in any jurisdiction would attract penalties under both U.S. and Nigerian laws.
To protect the interests of law-abiding Nigerians, the Customs Service disclosed that it is working closely with the U.S. Mission in Abuja.
The aim is to ensure compliance with travel standards and to prevent Nigeria’s inclusion in an expanded U.S. visa ban list, which could affect legitimate travellers pursuing lawful engagements.
