…Targets tech, AI, entrepreneurial skills to tackle unemployment
The Lagos State Government has unveiled the Eko Digital Training programme for young people in Iba and Ikorodu, designed to develop practical abilities in digital literacy, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship.
Organised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the training will run from 28 July to 1 August 2025 at the Iba ICT Centre, Iba Town, Ojo LCDA, and the Ikorodu Town Hall CBT Centre.
The free scheme, a flagship youth empowerment project of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aims to tackle unemployment and enhance technological competence among Lagos’s younger population.
Government officials confirmed that the modules will cover emotional intelligence, an introduction to artificial intelligence, and strategies for entrepreneurship.
Speaking to journalists in Ikeja on Wednesday, Commissioner for Tertiary Education Hon Tolani Sule said the programme reflects the administration’s broader dedication to improving standards in tertiary education and preparing young people for the demands of a modern labour market.
Sule explained that the centres in Iba and Ikorodu have been fitted with advanced ICT infrastructure, skilled instructors, and a structured curriculum tailored to promote effective learning and practical skill development.
“This initiative is a deliberate investment in the future of our youth. It offers a unique chance for young people to acquire industry-relevant knowledge and competencies at no financial cost,” he stated.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Adeniran Kasali, described youth-focused digital programmes as a cornerstone of Lagos State’s economic strategy, crucial to building a globally competitive economy and improving residents’ quality of life.
He encouraged eligible residents in Iba and Ikorodu to seize the opportunity, assuring that other divisions would benefit in upcoming phases.
This phase follows earlier training sessions held in Yaba, Agege, and Epe earlier in the year. Officials said the recurring model demonstrates a continuing government drive to widen access to digital education, reduce unemployment, and foster self-reliance among Lagosians.
