A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Diaspora leader, Prince Ade Omole, has described the emergence of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the party’s new national chairman as a timely and strategic decision.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Omole said Yilwatda’s election marked a bold step towards repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This is a critical moment for the APC as we consolidate our political strength across the country. Yilwatda’s leadership brings renewed hope for grassroots engagement, institutional reforms, and electoral dominance,” Omole said.
Yilwatda was elected unopposed during the APC’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. His nomination by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), received overwhelming support through a voice vote.
Omole, a member of the Global Conveners of The Asiwaju Group (TAG) and former Director of the APC Presidential Diaspora Campaign Directorate, praised President Bola Tinubu and party stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and unified leadership transition.
“The peaceful process that led to Yilwatda’s emergence affirms the APC’s commitment to competence, continuity, and internal democracy,” he said.
Highlighting Yilwatda’s credentials, Omole said the new chairman’s background in governance, engineering, and humanitarian service positions him to lead the party effectively during this pivotal period.
He also commended TAG Co-Convener and Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, for his leadership and for championing solar energy projects aimed at improving power access in underserved communities.
Yilwatda, who previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, was born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke LGA of Plateau State. A registered engineer and former Resident Electoral Commissioner with INEC, he was the APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau during the 2023 elections.
His election follows the resignation of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as APC national chairman on health grounds on June 27.
