Troops deployed across various military operations nationwide have neutralised terrorists, rescued over 170 kidnapped victims, and disrupted oil theft schemes valued at N241.2 million, the Defence Headquarters has disclosed.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, revealed these in an update covering operations conducted between July 10 and 22.
In the North East, troops under Operation Hadin Kai carried out offensives in Borno and Adamawa, leading to the arrest of 13 terrorists, the rescue of three victims, and the apprehension of nine suspected collaborators. Growing military pressure also prompted mass surrenders by terrorists and their families.
In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA cleared several hideouts across Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, and Niger States. A total of 106 kidnapped victims were freed in Maru LGA of Zamfara, while another 32—mostly women and children—were released through non-kinetic engagements. Six terrorists were arrested, including a notorious figure identified as Muhammadu Hamisu, also known as Mamiyo.
Operations also yielded the recovery of arms, ammunition, motorcycles, illicit drugs, and N192,300 in cash.
Troops under Operation SAFE HAVEN in the North Central neutralised extremists and arrested suspects in Plateau and Kaduna, rescuing 17 hostages and recovering vehicles, arms, and motorcycles. In Kaduna’s Sanga LGA, a suspected gunrunner was caught with 350 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Further operations under Operation WHIRL STROKE across Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the FCT led to the elimination of more extremists and arrest of suspects, including one linked to attacks near Federal University Wukari and another identified as an informant for a kidnap ring.
In the South-South, troops under Operation DELTA SAFE dismantled 14 illegal refining sites and seized large quantities of stolen crude and refined petroleum products. Recovered items included 230,400 litres of stolen crude, 13,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 2,500 litres of petrol. Troops also destroyed refining equipment and arrested 237 suspects.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and restoring peace in affected regions.
