Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, has assured that the North has no reason to fear or regret its support for President Bola Tinubu, insisting the region is well represented and actively engaged in the current administration.
Speaking at a technical session during a Government–Citizens’ Engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Bagudu emphasized that Tinubu’s government is inclusive, fair, and committed to national unity.
He dismissed claims of marginalisation, stressing that Northern leaders in the administration are vigilant in defending the region’s interests and ensuring equity in governance.
“Those of us in government are alert to our responsibilities. There is no systemic discrimination. Appointments are based on merit, competence, and national character,” he said.
Bagudu urged citizens not to be swayed by divisive rhetoric, noting that the administration’s policies are designed to foster development across all regions.
Addressing economic challenges, he acknowledged that Tinubu inherited a fragile economy plagued by fuel subsidy burdens, forex instability, and high deficits. However, reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda — including subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and fiscal adjustments — are already yielding results.
He pointed to improved revenue allocations as proof of impact, citing Adamawa’s rise from N9.76 billion in May 2023 to N22.73 billion by June 2025 as a direct outcome of stronger fiscal performance.
Bagudu also highlighted structural changes like the relocation of the Budget Office and the creation of new ministries such as Livestock Development and Regional Development, aimed at unlocking sectoral growth.
He said the government’s focus has now shifted from stabilisation to inclusive growth, infrastructure expansion, and poverty reduction.
“This is not just about reporting achievements,” he said. “It is a covenant of inclusive development. Every region, including the North, stands to benefit.”
