The Labour Party has firmly denied claims that it is planning a “One Million-Man March” protest aimed at violently overthrowing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, described the allegations as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
The party was reacting to a petition allegedly submitted to the National Security Adviser by Abayomi Arabambi, who claimed to be a party spokesman. In the petition, Arabambi accused key Labour Party figures including Peter Obi, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Senator Victor Umeh, Prof. Theophilius Ndubuaku, and Dr Yunusa Tanko—of plotting to destabilise the country under the guise of a protest to reclaim the party’s former secretariat in Abuja.
Asogwa dismissed the allegations as a reckless fabrication, stating that the party had long abandoned the property in question and had no interest in reclaiming it by force. He said the Labour Party is not involved in any protest and has not authorised any demonstration anywhere in the country.
He also raised concerns over reports that operatives of the Department of State Services had begun harassing some party officials based on what he called a “concocted tale.”
“This is a dangerous throwback to an era where opposition voices were framed in phantom coup plots to silence dissent,” Asogwa said. “It is laughable and deeply suspicious to link a supposed protest over a party office to a coup plot.”
He called on security agencies to investigate the petition and uncover those behind the alleged attempt to mislead the public and stir political tension.
Asogwa reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, urging Nigerians to reject what he described as a poorly scripted political drama intended to intimidate and distract.
