Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate, has clarified that his principal, Peter Obi, was fully aware of his decision to attend the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting led by Julius Abure.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed described himself as a “peacemaker” on a mission to reconcile aggrieved members of the Labour Party, insisting that his actions were transparent and deliberate.
“The Labour Party is not a party to walk away from or to be abandoned,” he said. “I assure you that every little step I take, concerned parties are aware. I may not disclose internal workings, but I can categorically say that everyone involved in what I do is informed.”
He called for unity within the party, stressing the need for dialogue among stakeholders. “I am a positive catalyst in this case. I’m bringing people together to unite, understand one another, and make renewed efforts to rescue Nigeria.”
Baba-Ahmed also noted that the LP, like many political parties, had suffered under what he described as the “captors of the Nigerian state,” urging leaders to rise above internal divisions and rally for a common cause.
Addressing comments by Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, who claimed Obi’s supporters were unaware of the Abure-led meeting, Baba-Ahmed said, “I don’t talk to Mr. Tanko. I relate with our boss, His Excellency Peter Obi and I do.”
“Peter Obi is aware. He probably has been too busy to update the Tankos around him. I speak with the boss, not those who move around with him. And I’m happy they’re still around they’re loyal and active. But let me be clear: Peter Obi is aware, please.”
